Our comprehensive testing process is designed to support learning, boost confidence, and help students navigate this critical academic and developmental stage with clarity and direction.
Why High School Testing Matters
High school brings new academic demands, greater independence, and increasing pressure to prepare for life after graduation. For many students, these years also surface learning challenges, emotional struggles, or attention difficulties that may have gone undetected in earlier grades. Identifying and addressing these concerns can be essential not just for academic performance but for long-term well-being. Whether your teen is falling behind despite effort, having difficulty staying organized, or overwhelmed by stress, a psychological evaluation can provide meaningful answers and a plan forward.
What Is High School Testing?
High school testing is a comprehensive psychological assessment tailored to the unique needs of adolescents. It combines cognitive testing, academic achievement measures, executive function assessments, emotional screening, and behavioral input to create a full picture of how a student is functioning. At Washington Insight Solutions, our evaluations explore: cognitive abilities such as memory, reasoning, and processing speed; academic achievement in reading, math, and writing; executive functioning skills like time management, planning, and organization; emotional and behavioral functioning, including anxiety, depression, or stress responses; input from teachers, parents, and the student. Our approach is evidence-based, age-appropriate, and designed to support both school performance and personal growth.
Who Should Consider High School Testing?
A psychological evaluation may be beneficial for high school students who: are experiencing declining grades despite high effort; struggle with time management, task completion, or procrastination; feel overwhelmed by school expectations or standardized testing; have difficulty organizing thoughts, materials, or routines; appear bright but underperform on assignments or tests; need documentation for testing accommodations (such as the SAT, ACT, or AP exams); are navigating emotional changes that may be impacting school performance. If your teen has always had to work twice as hard to keep up, or has recently started struggling in school, this type of evaluation can provide clarity and support effective intervention.
Our Step-by-Step Evaluation Process
Step 1: Initial Consultation
We begin with a thorough intake meeting to understand your concerns, review your teen’s academic history, and clarify your goals for the evaluation. This can take place in person or virtually.
Step 2: Testing Sessions
Your teen will complete a series of assessments over one to three sessions (approximately three to five hours total). Tasks include interactive problem-solving, memory and processing exercises, and questionnaires
Step 3: Scoring and Clinical Interpretation
Our licensed psychologists score and analyze the results across all areas, looking for patterns that reflect how your teen is functioning both academically and emotionally.
Step 4: Feedback and Written Report
You’ll receive a comprehensive written report that explains results in clear, jargon-free language. We meet with you to walk through the findings, offer tailored recommendations, and provide strategies for school, home, and personal success.
High School Testing vs School-Based Screening
Public schools often offer educational assessments to determine eligibility for accommodations or services. However, school-based evaluations are generally limited in scope and may take several months to complete. At Washington Insight Solutions, private testing offers a broader, more individualized experience with faster turnaround times, diagnosis when appropriate (such as ADHD or learning disorders), and detailed reports accepted by most schools and testing boards for accommodation requests. Our goal is to provide a deeper understanding of your teen’s strengths, challenges, and potential.
Do I need to complete a full evaluation first?
No. In fact, high school is a great time to evaluate learning and attention needs, especially before major transitions like college or standardized testing.
Can the results help with college accommodations?
Yes. Our reports can be submitted to colleges and testing agencies for extended time and other accommodations.
Do you work with school counselors?
Yes. With your permission, we can collaborate with educators, counselors, and college advisors to help implement recommendations.
Do you offer ADHD testing for teens?
Absolutely. We assess for ADHD, learning disabilities, emotional concerns, and executive functioning issues.
Will Insurance cover the cost?
We are an out-of-network provider. However, many families receive reimbursement through PPO insurance plans, HSAs, or FSAs.
